App Review: Be My Eyes

"And do not forget to do good and to share with others, for with such sacrifices God is pleased." Hebrews 13:16

The app market on mobile devices has sky rocketed over the years. Some apps helping people get around, track their fitness schedule, track what they eat, etc. Other apps are games and other forms of entertainment. But what happens when an app is created to bring volunteers to the circle to help those who can't see or can't see the best?

Be My Eyes was created in 2015 by Hans Jorgen Wiberg, who is visually impaired himself. The app pairs seeing volunteers with vision impair people to help them do everyday tasks such as picking out an outfit, or reading an expiration date. The number of volunteers is in the millions while the number of people registered is only in the thousands.  Within the first 24 hours the app had over 10 thousand volunteers ready to help.

Alexander Hauerslev Jensen, the CCO of Be My Eyes, said, “It takes a few minutes to make a big impact on someone else’s life. This is a combination of technology and human generosity.”

The app is a game changer for the visually impaired. It's kind of like a Facetime call. You wait for it to ring and when it does, you do your best to help the person.

For those calling in in need of help, users say that you don't have to worry about calling too much or if you're bothering anyone. They say the volunteers are always super excited and really glad to be helping. Being used in 150+ countries and in 180+ languages, you can bet people are loving the app! Be My Eyes holds a 4.8 star rating on the Apple Store as users label it as "brilliant" and brightens up people's days.

Be My Eyes also has partnerships with companies like Microsoft, Goggle and even Clear Blue. The app is available for download on iOS and Android and is free.

Always stay humble and kind!
